MUARA, BRUNEI-MUARA
Pekan Muara is now experiencing rapid development with the construction of several high-rise apartments and shop-house blocks that are ready to be booked and occupied for business.
The construction of the high-rise apartment buildings is currently in progress and can be seen from the main road towards Pekan Muara.
Most developers are focusing on the Muara area due to the huge demand of houses brought about by major development works such as the Hengyi refinery at Pulau Muara Besar, which is expected to begin operation in 2019.
Awang Timbang bin Haji Besar, a retired public servant, said Pekan Muara will soon become a busy commercial area with more shops and shopping complexes.
The rapid development will also bring in more people resulting in an increase in the town's population.
He said the new development will also turn Muara town and its surrounding areas into a new township similar to the busy commercial area in Gadong.
Pekan Muara is also the focus point for people coming from the neighbouring state of Labuan, and Muara Port is crucial as it is Brunei's port of call for cruise ships from foreign countries.
Visitors coming to Brunei in cruise ships have been increasing from time to time and the development of more commercial shopping complexes will add to the tourist inflow.
"We forecast that when the refinery starts production, over 800 people will be needed for its operation. Hence there is a huge demand for houses in the Muara area," said Silva, a representative of land developer Aranta Sdn Bhd. "We hope that we are in the right time to take the opportunity to meet the demand upon the completion of our project by June 2016."
The developer said this is a great opportunity to own a home at an affordable price or to invest in a property to get rental income.
The starting point of the 19-kilometre Brunei-Muara to Temburong Bridge is also situated along the Muara coastal highway.
Currently, several banks, fast food restaurants and supermarkets are operating in the Muara area.
