BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Brunei will host its first ever Asian Enduro Series cycling race from September 27 to October 1, and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) has signed on as the title sponsor and official airline for the event.

The Asian Enduro Series mountain bike races were introduced in 2016 to uncover talented cyclist in Asia, prepare them for international competition and to boost tourism within the region.

The Asian Enduro Series sees competitors race over multiple down-hill course against the clock. The 2017 series comprises four separate race events. Round one was held in Nepal on April 6-9 and round two in Chiang Mai from August 17-20. Brunei will be hosting round three, while round four will take place in Taiwan in December.

Over 100 overseas participants are expected to visit Brunei for the race which will be held at Tasek Serubing and Subok. Riders may enter one of five categories; Elite, Weekend Warrior, Legends (45+yrs), Feminino (women) and Prodigy (15-17yrs).

A sponsorship signing ceremony was held yesterday with Kingdom Rides and Adventures’ and Royal Brunei Airlines to recognize the airlines participation as naming rights sponsors and official airline. Signing for Kingdom Rides and Adventures was its Director, Jason Pickett and RB Executive General Manager – Sales and Marketing, Mr Brett McDougall represented the airline. The signing was witnessed by Director of Brunei Tourism, Hj Zamree Hj Junaidi.

As part of its support, RB will be releasing out special airfares and hotel packages to race entrants and their families and supporters.

Jason Pickett noted that they are expecting over 100 international competitors from throughout the region.

He also said that with this comes the potential exposure for Brunei showing this progressive, forward thinking event to the region.

He added this can only be good for tourism and cycling as we look to future events in the years to come.

He also thanked the sponsorships and also the government for supporting and organising the event through the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
