VIENTIANE

(KPL) Authorities in Khounkham district, Khammuan Province continue to extend relief items including drinking water, food, to flood victims in 14 villages of the district.

Seven out of the 14 villages remain isolated from help as the road accessing these communities is inundated. As of now these villages can be only reached by boats.

The affected in these villages include 236 families in Nakang village, 142 in Keng village, and 137 families in Phonyeng village.

“Since the flooding took place on Aug 1, the district disaster management committee have been working with relevant authorities in Khammuan and those from Vientiane to reach the affected families as soon as possible and has evacuated the affected families, especially those in Khounmany village and Phonyeng-Nonghang village cluster to safer grounds. Houses in these villages are inundated,” said Governor of Khounkham district, Mr. Keovilay Xayabouth.
