(KPL) The 5th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 9th legislature came to an end on July 18 with its closing ceremony witnessing the presence of the National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith, and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

Cabinet members, other Party and government leaders, members of the National Assembly and representatives of Lao Front for National Development and relevant authorities also participated in the closing session.

Delivering a closing remarks, NA President Xaysomphone said that the 5th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 9th legislature has achieved its objectives including the approval of reports on the implementation of the current socio-economic development plan, state budget plan, monetary plan, and the two national agendas on Addressing Economic and Financial Difficulties, and Drug Issues in the first half of 2023, and targets set for the second half of the year.

The National Assembly members also approved on a draft 10-year National Strategy on Mineral Development 2021-2030 and Vision 2040, the implementation of the social protection strategy, and a draft National Strategy on Water and Water Resources Management 2030, and well as reports on the implementation of four laws in the justice sphere: Law on People’s Supreme Court, Law on Supreme People’s Prosecutor Office, Law on Civil Procedure, and Law on Criminal Procedure.

Lawmakers adopted four new laws including Law on Public Health, Employment, Land Tax, and Lao Young Pioneers, and amendments to six laws - Commercial Banks, Aquatic Animals and Fisheries, Wildlife, Printing and Distribution, Protection of the Rights and Interests of Children, and Military Court.

“The meeting has noted that although our country has been affected by regional and global uncertainties as well as domestic socio-economic difficulties which have accumulated for many years, significant efforts made by the government in implementing the policy of the Party, and the government’s unity with the National Assembly with respect to issues of national interest as well as the struggle of the public and social organisations and people of all ethnic groups have led to many achievements in implementing the National Socio-economic Development Plan with some of these achievements going beyond expectations,” said NA President.

“These have allowed the country to continue to have strong political stability, social peace and order and manage to save its economy from falling into a severe crisis,” said NA President.
