Ski Jumper Kubacki Ends Season Due To Personal Matters

WARSAW

Dawid Kubacki, Poland's bronze medalist at Beijing 2022, announced on Monday that he will cut short his ski jumping FIS World Cup season as his wife is ill in hospital.

On Sunday the Polish Ski Association informed the public that Kubacki wouldn't perform in the final contest of the Raw Air competition in Norway. The following day, the two-time Olympic medalist made an official statement in which he wrote that he would not return to the hill this season.

"I should give you some information due to my urgent return home. My wife Marta landed in the hospital for cardiological reasons. She is in a bad condition and doctors are fighting for her life," the 33-year-old said.

"She's a strong girl. I know she will fight. That is the end of the season for me but it's not important now," Kubacki added.

In the general classification of the ski jumping FIS World Cup, Kubacki is in second place behind leader Halvor Egner Granerud. The Pole's absence in Sunday's competition means the Norwegian is guaranteed to take the title.

However, Granerud announced on the hill that he wouldn't comment on his victory due to Kubacki's family situation. At the same time, on his social media, he expressed his support for the Polish ski jumper.

"I keep my fingers crossed for you. I wish you all the best, take care of you," Granerud wrote to Kubacki.
