Twenty-five people in Xekong Province have been reportedly been infected with tuberculosis (TB), according to the Provincial Head of the TB Prevention Division, Mr Daecha Luangphuckdy.

The TB infections were reported during a visit by a delegation from the Tuberculosis Centre in Vientiane last week which was led by the Deputy Head of the Centre, Mr Phouvang Vangvichith.

The new cases of TB in Xekong Province were found following the end of the second phase of the first quarter of the TB Prevention Campaign.

The result of the campaign found that 16 people in Lamam district were infected with TB, seven were infected in Thateng district and one each in the districts of Kalum and Dakchumg.

Last year, Xekong Province reported 52 cases of TB, 37 of which were in Lamam district, 10 cases were in Thateng district, and four were in Dakchumg district.

All of the victims received medical care and 85 percent of them have recovered.
