Bush Fires Affecting Residents, Road Users

 April 1st, 2016  |  05:28 AM  |   1478 views

TUTONG

Persistent bush fires spreading across hectares of land in Tutong are beginning to affect residents, particularly those living near the Tutong-Jerudong Highway in Penanjong, where the fires are most visible.

Some residents said that they found it difficult to sleep at night, due to the unpleasant smell of smoke and ash drifting into their houses.

The Fire and Rescue Department has been working hard to control the bush fires in Tutong District for more than two weeks now.

According to recent information from the Public Relations Officer of the Tutong Fire and Rescue Department, they are working to contain the fires froth spreading outside the areas of origin.

The public is advised to avoid open burning which could only make the situation worse, especially in the current dry weather conditions.

Road users have also been advised to be extra careful, especially when driving through smoke-filled sections of the Tutong-Jerudong Highway.

Members of the public are urged to call 995, if the fires should spread to surrounding residential and commercial property.
