Commuters walking through Bond Street station thought Christmas had come early after a cash machine started firing out £20 notes.

A video showed the ATM in central London spraying money like it was going out of fashion.

It turned out the Bitcoin Technologies machine had started to malfunction after a customer requested a large sum of money and it was unable to handle the order.

The man collecting the cash was so overwhelmed he started kicking the money towards a duffel bag that was already filled with notes.

Bitcoin Technologies CEO Adam Gramowski told the Sun: ‘As you can see there is a bag in the front of ATM.

‘However our ATMs support large transactions and it is fair to say that a larger, redesigned presenter would be a good solution.

‘Our customer was not particularly careful, although the ATM should be redesigned to cope better with small denominations used in the UK.’

It didn’t look like anyone was able to steal any cash after a guard spotted the malfunctioning ATM and protected the customer while he gathered his money.

A number of commuters were seen hanging around and eyeing the wads of cash.
