Mum Put Tea And Coffee Into Wrong Jars So This Is How She Fixed The Problem

Rich Harris’s mum couldn’t explain why she didn’t just swap the contents (Picture: SWNS)

We all have our senior moments sometimes, but few are quite as amusing as this one.

Rich Harris, 42, discovered his mum Jackie, 69, had accidentally mixed up the tea and coffee jars, but instead of swapping the contents, she relabelled the jars. She scribbled out the ‘tea’ label and used thick black pen to daub ‘coffee’ on it – and did the same for the nearby coffee container.

Baffled, Rich asked his mum why she’d done it she said it was so she didn’t want to ‘confuse people anymore’ – and didn’t think to empty and refill them correctly.

Jackie, who Rich described as a ‘simple woman with a heart of gold and the mind of a goldfish’, said she underlined the new ‘tea’ label because she drinks more tea than coffee.

Rich said: ‘Every time I’ve gone to make a cuppa this past two weeks, I’ve thought to myself “why the hell has she done this?”.’

Rich moved in with his retired parents in Clacton-on-Sea last August, but noticed the weird switch just two weeks ago.

Rich said that Jackie filled the jars wrong one day and didn’t think to empty them and refill correctly, so decided to relabel the jars with a permanent marker pen.

Not wanting to mix the tea and coffee anymore than she had, Jackie decided to relabel the jars with a permanent marker pen.

Rich said that he and his dad Mike, 72, have been living with the newly-labelled jars for two weeks, and couldn’t understand why Jackie made the switch..

He decided to take a picture of the jars on 19 May around 6pm, and posted the snap on Twitter with the caption: ‘I honestly have no idea why my mother has done this.’

Rich said he ‘never dreamed’ he’d ever see a tweet of his ‘get so big’.

He said he’s trying to read and reply to all the comments because they’re ‘pure gold’. Jackie said the switch was ‘innocently done’.

She said: ‘I’m absolutely flabbergasted, but also very flattered that people seem to be enjoying it, and I’m glad if I was able to brighten up someone’s day.’

Rich said that his mum was prone to funny gaffes.

He said when she worked for Woolworths she once cut six separate single yards of ribbon for a customer who asked for ‘six yards of ribbon’.

She apparently ‘couldn’t understand why that customer demanded to see the manager’.

He said: ‘This is all my mum’s doing. She’s a lovely lady but batty as a fruitcake sometimes!’
