JALAN DATO MARSAL, BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SMJA) recently organised an academic award presentation ceremony for its BC GCE 'O' Level students who did well in their examinations last year.

Held at the STPRI Hall, the event saw Acting Assistant Director of Politeknik Brunei Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar as guest of honour.

The school's principal, Dayangku Hajah Rosnani binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, said that in the BC GCE 'O' Level 2015 exam, the number of students achieving 9 'Os' stood at 82 students (or 32.16 per cent).

SMJA ranked 14th from the 36 schools nationwide, the principal added.

Eighty-four students pursued their studies at sixth form centres with 60 pursuing their sixth form studies at Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College, six went to Meragang Sixth Form Centre, seven headed to Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre and one other went to Sayyidina Ali Secondary School Kuala Belait.

The remaining students, meanwhile, opted to pursue their studies by applying to Politeknik Brunei and technical institution as well as private institutions, the principal explained.

Six categories were presented at the award ceremony, namely awards for 19 students achieving nine and eight 'O' Levels, four students awarded A*, a student with overall excellence and 34 students received encouragement prizes.

Additionally, four teachers were awarded Teachers Recognition for the four subjects that have seen improvement, which are English Literature, Food and Nutrition, Chemistry and Principles of Account.
