The Ministry for Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development will be supporting the Sarawak Kids Got Talent programme, to be held for the first time ever.

The new programme is on top of other talent programmes initiated by several government agencies. These include smart and creative programme for unity, Kemas (Community development department) Potential Day, pre-school carnival for Education ministry and private sector.

Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the Sarawak Kids Got Talent is a platform to unearth talents among the cream of the different agencies and indirectly to search talents for Sarawak.

The pre education development has experienced change since 2010 through the Amended Education Act 2010 and the Education National Key Result Area (NKRA) and that is why the Sarawak Kids Got Talent is being initiated now, she added.

The programme is in line with educational transformation to produce human capital with competitive edge, creative and innovative mindset. It will also contribute to expose children to racial harmony and multiple intelligences and languages. On top of that they are required to show talent in choral speaking, ethnic dances and music, solo singing and special or unique talent among others.

The competition will be an avenue for children to face a large audience in an effort to prepare them for leadership training.

Fatimah said she hoped children of the next generation would be more dynamic, competitive, disciplined, active, innovative and nationalistic in facing what lies ahead of them in the future.

“We need to provide platform to help them (children) to develop holistically instead of just being learners in the classroom,” she said.

A working committee comprising officials from her ministry has been set up to manage and execute the programme including the talent search. Competitions at various agencies’ level will be held in August while the one at state level, in September.

The agencies involved are those under the Community Development, National Unity and Intergration Department, Welfare Department and Education Department.
