The Hassanal Bolkiah ASEAN Youth Cup 2018 Football championship organised by the country aims to uphold His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DI-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's titah to gather the best teams in the ASEAN region to compete in the ASEAN football league. Apart from that, it is also to provide exposure and showcase ASEAN sporting ability to the world.

In his speech at a media conference, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports among other things explained that seven countries comprising Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste will participate in the championship which begins on the 23rd of next month.

Awang Haji Amir Hamzah Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria added that the championship will take place at two locations namely the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium and Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. The official opening ceremony of the Hassanal Bolkiah ASEAN Youth Cup 2018 football championship will be held on Monday, 23rd of April 2018 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. Brunei Darussalam has won the championship twice, in 2012 and 2014. The Acting Permanent Secretary also said that the championship provides opportunity to young players to compete and to from a network among the players to create understanding of the diverse cultures in the ASEAN Community.
