Bruneian Man Convicted of Using Counterfeit Money to Buy Gas

A local man first charged in 2013 for using counterfeit money to purchase fuel was convicted yesterday by the Intermediate Court and will he sentenced on March 29.


Mohd Yaakub bin Taib, represented by lawyer Yusuf Halim, was found guilty of handing an attendant at Roxana Petrol Station in Seria a counterfeit BND$500 used as genuine when purchasing fuel for his car on the night of March 19, 2005.


Judge Haji Abdullah Soefri bin PAM Dato Haji Abidin found the evidence laid out by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raafe' Ibrahim and the prosecution witnesses to have proved the case to be beyond the court's reasonable doubt.


Mohd Yaakub faces a penalty of a maximum jail of 15 years with a fine.
