Senior officials representing capital cities of ASEAN member states met in Vientiane Capital on Thursday, May 5 to discuss preparations for the 4th Meeting of the Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals to be held in Vientiane in November 2016.

Thursday’s meeting was chaired by Vice Mayor of Vientiane Capital Keophylavanh Aphaylath.

The coming meeting is expected to be organized under the theme “Responsibilities and Duties of the ASEAN Capitals towards ASEAN Integration” which will focus on making ASEAN capitals livable cities, ensuring the public security of ASEAN capitals, preservation and promotion of tradition and heritage, the promotion of tourism, cooperation in strengthening labour forces and mutual assistance.

The Meeting of the Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals is a meeting to exchange experiences among the ASEAN national capital cities on the contribution of integrated ASEAN and research cooperation programmes among the capitals for peace and better living conditions for people in the region.

The Meeting of the Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals is held annually in rotation among ASEAN capitals.

The 3rd Meeting of the Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals was held in Malaysia, the 2nd in Thailand, and the 1st in Indonesia.
