 July 7th, 2017  |  09:04 AM  |   1359 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

One of the aspects of language skills that need to be mastered by a student is speaking skill, apart from listening, reading and writing. However, listening and speaking skills are most important in language skills as both skills compliment one another. This matter was stated by Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education during the second "Tuturan Pelajar" Malay Language Forum. The competition for pre-universities and Institutes of Brunei Technical Education students was held this morning at Dewan Raya of Radio Television Brunei.

According to the Deputy Minister of Education, students who master such skills usually have the potential to excel in reading and writing. A good listening skill will allow a student to obtain and process accurate information. A student who has a good communication skill can express their feelings and thoughts effectively. Therefore, the students' involvement in such a competition can further improve their language proficiency in Malay Language, as well as to enhance their thinking skills.

The Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School with their forum titled "Dadah Pemusnah Modal Insan" emerged champion. The second place was won by Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College and Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School was the third place winner. The competition organised by the Narcotic Control Bureau with the cooperation of Akli Unit, Co-curriculum Education Department, Ministry of Education and Radio Television Brunei aimed to strengthen the students' mastery and skills in the use of Standard Malay Language.
