JMB Member Slashed Over Security Screenshot Display

Painful ordeal: Ganesh relating the attack after undergoing microsurgery on his severed thumb.

 June 21st, 2017  |  09:31 AM  |   1928 views

GEORGE TOWN

A joint management body (JMB) member of a high-rise residence here alleged that an angry resident slashed him with a parang, thinking he was in charge of the building’s management.

T. Ganesh, 39, claimed the man’s wife and brother-in-law also assaulted him at Puncak Erskine Apartments near Fettes Park.

He said it all started when a camera screenshot, showing a man who resembled the resident breaking the lifts’ security scanning system, was placed on the apartments’ notice board.

“The building’s management company showed the screenshot and lodged a police report. They did not inform the seven JMB members about the matter.

“The man confronted me but I told him that I was not part of the building management.”

Ganesh added that he was attacked on June 12 while he was having dinner alone at a coffee shop on the building’s ground floor.

“The man hit my head with a parang and his brother-in-law punched me.

“My left hand was slashed and my thumb severed as I tried to shield myself. Then they fled, leaving me bleeding profusely.

“I was admitted to hospital the same night and underwent microsurgery for eight hours. I am worried for my hand now,” he said at Gleneagles Hospital Penang in Jalan Pangkor here yesterday.

Ganesh said it was important that residents were educated on the roles of the building management and JMB members so there would be no confusion.

He said he would leave the matter to the police who have recorded his statement.
