Surprise Visits By JPKE To Business Premises

The Department of Economic Planning and Development, JPKE advises members of the public to practice the 'Smart Consumer' concept when shopping by making price comparison before purchasing any goods. To ensure that all entrepreneurs in the country abide by the Price Control Act Chapter 142, and the Price Control Order, JPKE made surprise visits to business premises for the Price Controlled Goods, Setting of Maximum Prices on Selected Food Items during Festive Season and the 'Jualan Aneka Brunei' for the year 1438 Hijrah/2017.
The visit which began in Hua Ho Department Store, Gadong was led by Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad, Acting Permanent Secretary of Economy and Finance at the Prime Minister's Office. Also joining the delegation was Awang Haji Asrul Adrain bin Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Ahmad, Acting Deputy Director General of JPKE. Among the objectives of the visits is ensure that the controlled goods namely cooking oil and milk does not exceed the maximum price, while sugar and rice are not being sold more than the subsidy. Observations were also carried out to monitor vendors taking part in Jualan Aneka Brunei (JAB). Towards inculcating the concept of "Smart Consumer", JPKE has launched the SmartConsumer app which provides a platform to compare prices.
