Negligence and ignorance in using electrical appliances can cause overheating, overloading, short-circuits and loose connections.  These problems are some of the common causes of fires.  Besides that, fires are also caused by left cooking, children playing with matches, left candles, throwing away lighted cigarette butts, gas leaks and many more.  Today's Khutbah or Friday sermon advised the public to take fire prevention measures.  The sermon was entitled, 'The Importance of Fire Safety and Prevention in Daily Life'.

Leaders highlighted that from January to March this year, one thousand, two hundred emergency calls were received. There were 32 fires that involved 19 houses and 13 other buildings and the estimated damages amounted to one million, five hundred eight thousand, eight hundred and ten dollars ($1, 508,810). The prayers leaders warned because fires can cause loss of life and property, people should always be alert and cautious, while thinking of and giving priority to fire safety and prevention in daily life, at home or at the workplace.
