Sometimes, things that are simple to learn are deceptively difficult.

Like chess – ten minutes to learn but a lifetime to master. Taking a photograph. Rock, paper, scissors. Or eating a banana?

Journalist Dawn Foster peeled open a bitter debate today when she asked Twitter how they ate theirs.

You probably think you have it covered but in fact, the world of banana eaters is divided into two camps who may not even be aware that there is a rival faction.

After several people replied admitting they do eat bananas that boring, conventional way, she said: ‘WHY. It is the WRONG WAY.’

The theory goes that peeling it from the top leaves the banana more open to being squished in the attempt. According to popular wisdom, monkeys eat bananas by squeezing the opposite end slightly and dong things backwards, using the stalk as a handle.

People have asked the question before, but the banana battle seems no closer to being settled.
