Nurses and midwives are one of the main support of a nation's health system. Their duties and responsibilities are vital to ensure that patients receive quality and professional care and treatment.
Nurses and midwives account for 75.3 per cent of health care services in the country. They are the backbone of the nation's health care system, and play an important role to ensure the care quality is at optimum level. Their capability in providing effective healthcare make them an invaluable asset in the healthcare system.
The role of nurses is not only to provide healthcare to the patient, they also shoulder the responsibility to educate patients and the community on measures to prevent illness and injury. The Ministry of Health has implemented a number of initiatives to improve the nursing profession development.
Apart from competency in applying knowledge, skills and technology, nurses and midwives are also prepared to face various challenges that come with the rapid development in the field of health.
