Over 20 participants recited poetry at the Poetry Declamation Night, held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.

It was organised by the Malaysian High Commission in the country to foster interest and empower the Malay Language and Culture on the international stage. The event which also coincided with World Poetry Day, took place at the Malaysian High Commission in the country last night.

Among those present was Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary for Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The event featured several poetry declamations by ambassadors from friendly countries, senior government officials, academics, national writers and artists.

Such an event can also highlight the togetherness of Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam through poetry as a reflection of the similarities between the two countries, which is an important element in creating a society that loves culture and language. Also joining was a Member of the Legislative Council.
