Mamen Sánchez is the newly elected mayor of Jerez de La Frontera in Spain, and despite her political achievements she will known probably be best known for the woman with the toes.

Dubbed ‘Toemaggedon’, of course, Ms Sánchez’s sartorial mishap has gone viral, but rather than mocking her, people seem to be standing in solidarity with her.

Can you imagine the response if Ed Miliband had done this?

Using the hastag #diaInternacionalDelDedoFuera, which translates to #InternationalStickyOutToeDay, people have rallied around the Mayor, and Spanish newspaper El Pais have even named the look ‘wing-mirror toes’.
