The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division, IBE through Weights and Measures Unit, SDT and Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS through Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy conducted Joint Operation on business premises at Brunei Muara District on 23rd of April.
During the operation, SDT officers found 12 units of weighing machines used for trading purposes. However, one unit failed to comply with the Weights and Measures Act due to use of a weighing machine with an expired validity date. SDT officers also found one business premise selling weight scale machines to consumers without permit from SDT as an agent. All of the items are ordered to be taken down from the display. The business owner was given out Reminder Notice for further actions.
Business owners are advised to ensure weighing and measuring machines used during trading activities must be registered with SDT and in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 and Weighs and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994.
Failure to comply with or contravene with any provision of the Act is an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of one thousand dollars or imprisonment for a period of 3 months or both.
