A flight attendant from Argentina has revealed the one hotel appliance you should always check before using.
Barbara Bacilieri, a well known travel influencer with 475,000 TikTok followers, shared a number of hotel hacks in a viral video, to make sure you avoid any nasty surprises during your stay.
You may not have thought about this one before, but if you’re even thinking about making a brew, Barbara said it’s vital to check the kettle to make sure it’s clean.
‘Always take a look inside the coffee pot,’ she said.
‘Before boiling water for making tea or coffee, think it through.
‘It is said that some guests use the boiling jar for weird stuff, such as washing underwear, cooking sausages or even cleaning the menstrual cup!’
If you’ve ever used a hotel kettle without cleaning it, we can imagine you’re feeling a little gross right now.
‘You weren’t expecting this one, right? Just imagine how many other things guests do and we don’t know,’ she added.
As well as that, Barbara advised checking the bed, even if you think it’s clean.
This is a more standard practice for well-seasoned travellers – you can never be too careful.
‘Before getting into bed, lift the sheets,’ she said. ‘Check for bugs or socks that other guests may have left behind,’ says Barbara.
The travel influencer also shared how shocked she was to hear about the items that people steal from hotel rooms.
She said that people often feel entitled to stealing things just because they paid for the room — and she’s not talking slippers and shampoos.
‘Some people think that everything that is in the room is free, or as they paid so expensive they have the right to take it,’ she said.
‘The batteries from the remote control or worse, the light bulbs from the lights.’
She went on to say that while the stationary, coffee and tea bags are complimentary, the mugs aren’t, and neither are the pillows.
‘You wouldn’t believe how many guests take the hotel pillows home,’ she said.
‘And how many people have hotel towels at home? A lot.’
