870 cases were recorded in 2023 under the Syariah Criminal Penal Code Order 2013, according to the statistics of the Syariah Courts, Brunei Darussalam.

432 cases of khalwat under Section 196 (1) were recorded which are khalwat committed by Muslims. The number increased by 36 percent compared to 2022. While 25 cases were under Section 196 (2), Khalwat committed by non-Muslims with Muslims.

Meanwhile, the statistics of cases involving whipping which is attempted adultery for muhsan last year was two cases. While attempted adultery for ghairu muhsan was 20 cases. The total increased by 82 percent from last year. The total number of cases involving whipping in the last 4 years in the Syariah Court was 16 cases.
