PATHUMWAN, THAILAND

Brunei's Go players managed to obtain a total of four wins, just a single win short behind Singapore, during the 20th Asian University Go Tournament hosted by Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.

The team managed to gain much needed exposure and experience in preparation for the end of year's 3rd SEA 'Go' Championship to be hosted by Brunei Darussalam in December.

The Brunei team also managed to make new friends and extended their network of Go players.

Awangku Abu Afiq bin Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar and Winston Ang Ho Soon each have one win while Sia Kao Xiang managed to grab two wins. According to the team's head coach Chin Sin Voon, "Go players are all proud of themselves to play this game.

Go is a very unique game that bridges different cultural groups/identities and creates a universal language."

"Everyone just like meeting each other, some become BFFs.

"The Asian University Go Tournament is definitely a great exposure for all students; many of those who were shy managed to express themselves so well when everyone shares the same common interest.

"We would like to thank Aewon Brunei for sponsoring the team jersey for this tournament," he added.

Chin also mentioned that Go is a game that you will feel fortunate to learn/play as no one is limited to just one interest.

Joanne Missingham 7-dan professional who is known as the beauty in Go world has been learning classical music and gymnastics as well.

Meanwhile Winston Ang commented "I came to learn as much as possible and see where Brunei stands. The stay and programmes were very enjoyable and well-prepared. I see they are still many potential players here who wish to expose themselves to the World of Go."

First place was Park Jong Wook from Korea, second place Jo Namkyun also from Korea, third place went to Chan YiTien from Taiwan. The champion team was South Korea and second place team was Taiwan.
