'No Sign Of An LOD Yet', Says Saifuddin

PETALING JAYA

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has come out to say that he has yet to receive any letter of demand (LOD) from Kedah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

The Home Minister said he could be approached easily, and there was no need to see him at odd hours.

"No, I have not received anything. He (Sanusi) is in Kedah and I am here. I can be contacted at any time and I do not avoid any calls... that's the only difference.

"I have not received anything until today, yesterday I was in Kedah all day, tonight I will be in Kedah again, so I can be approached easily, there is no need to be approached at 3am," he told the press after the Immigration Day 2023 celebration in Putrajaya on Friday (July 21).

Saifuddin was commenting on the LOD by Muhammad Sanusi’s lawyer Messrs Tengku Amalin and Fauzi about the statements at a speech, at a press conference in Guar Chempedak and in written statements on July 15.

The PKR secretary-general had been given a week to issue a public apology and a written promise that he would not repeat statements alleging that the former was involved in the theft of rare earth elements (REE) and had misused state funds of Malaysian Records Information System (Marris).

Muhammad Sanusi had clarified that the information stated by Saifuddin was untrue as it was misleading with malicious intent to slander and politically motivated.

Commenting on the REE issue, Saifuddin was puzzled by Muhammad Sanusi’s action, who had not explained the actual situation including the recruitment of workers from China.

He said it had been 72 hours, since the matters were revealed but the incumbent Jeneri state assemblyman had kept mum unlike his usual quick retorts on other issues.

Elaborating on the REE issue in Kedah, Saifuddin questioned the actions of Muhammad Sanusi who did not tell and explain the real situation to the people, including the recruitment of workers from China.

"The Kedah Menteri Besar Corporation (MBI) employees from China holding the special visit passes have been arrested but why hasn’t Sanusi informed people about what has happened to them?

"Have they been terminated? What is the current status? He (Sanusi) should be answerable because he requested the letter to bring the employees as professional management staff," he said.

He added that employees hired as professional staff should not have been arrested for stealing 380 sacks of REE.

This was because for exploration purposes, the staff should have collected samples, as such the people of Kedah deserved to know what really transpired, he also said.
