Razarudin Husain Named New IGP Effective June 23

KUALA LUMPUR

 

Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has been officially appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) effective Friday (June 23).

 

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to Razarudin's appointment.

 

This is in accordance with Clause 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, following advice from the Prime Minister based on the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.

 

"He has been appointed as the IGP on a contract basis from June 23, 2023 until June 22, 2025. The government congratulates him on his appointment," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 21).

 

Razarudin, 61, was born on March 15, 1963 in Dengkil, Selangor.

 

He has held several posts in the police force after starting his service in 1984 at the Kedah CID as an investigating officer before transferring to the Muar district police headquarters as a Asst Supt in 1996.

 

Among his other posts were as the deputy commander of the CID Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC), the deputy Sabah police commissioner, the deputy Perak police chief and the Perak police chief.

 

Razarudin was appointed as the Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director for a year before becoming the Deputy IGP in 2021.

 

The current IGP - Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is - expected to retire on Thursday (June 22) following a handing over ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol)
