His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam then attended a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste were established on 20th May 2002, in which both countries mainly cooperate in the areas of education and training, as well as air services. His Excellency also expressed pleasure on the signing of the Air Services Agreement between both countries, which is vital in promoting tourism. In addition, His Majesty extended an invitation to His Excellency the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to visit Brunei Darussalam.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of education cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, including scholarship programmes.
