A mum has been left mortified after her daughter pressured her into telling her the truth about the Easter bunny and Santa - now the little girl is devastated upon realising

A mum is mortified after she let slip the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny to her six-year-old daughter, as her little one now says there's no "magic" left in the world.

When kids start to ask those tricky questions about things like Santa it can be difficult to lie, but one mum has felt the full effects of when you tell them the truth.

The daughter started to question the existence of the Easter Bunny after a recent Easter egg hunt at school so her mum told her that it was the parents that actually bought and hid the eggs.

In her Mumsnet post, the mum shared how this revelation made her daughter start to question a lot of other things and she was not happy with what her mum told her.

The mum, who remained anonymous, wrote: "It started as her questioning the existence of the Easter bunny, as a few things didn't add up to her about the school's Easter egg hunt.

"We've never made a thing of the Easter bunny, but have had egg hunts at home so I eventually said 'yes it's the parents that hide the eggs'."

But her daughter did not even consider that this would be the reality as she thought Santa could be hiding the eggs - so the mum already felt dreadful but her daughter then had further questions.

She said: "I tried being vague saying along the lines of 'well we have to believe to keep the magic alive etc.....'. She wasn't to be fobbed off though and outright asked me if Santa was real and got the presents.

"In the end I felt I couldn't outright lie, so told her I didn't know whether Santa was real, but it is the parents that buy the gifts, and explained the tradition around that.

"Last night and this morning it is like the bottom has dropped out of her world. She is really upset and says she wishes she didn't know, that she feels there is no more magic in the world. I just don't know what to say to her, how to comfort her. "

Her daughter was very dejected and upset going into school and the mum told her she can't tell any of her friends in class.

In response, many have said the mum should have continued the lie as she is so young and are concerned her daughter will spread the news to her classmates.

One person wrote: "Her daughter is so going to tell others."

Another stated: "Honestly at six-years-old I think you were massively unreasonable. She's a baby. I honestly don't understand why you didn't lie."

A third penned: "Yeah you've made a mistake with this one. Nothing you can do now obviously though! Just hope she keeps it to herself, although I would work on the assumption she may not."
