Civil servants must possess the drive and the spirit to realise the Brunei Vision 2035 by changing the old ways that hinder progress and nurturing a more positive and constructive approach in line with development and current demand, with the country's future in mind, Imams said yesterday.

"The 21" Century civil service vision also advocates that civil servants constantly develop and progress according to individual capacity and capabilities based on Islamic teachings and within a peaceful, prosperous and stable environment under the protection of Allah the Almighty," the religious leaders said in the Friday sermon to mark the 23rd Civil Service Day celebrations carrying the theme `Transformation towards a Progressive Civil Service'.

Every September 29, our country celebrates Civil Service Day with the hope that civil servants will render efficient, clean, sincere, honest and productive service of quality, they noted.

"Know that excellent service can only be achieved through transformation of the mind and a pure and positive attitude that act as a catalyst and a trigger for better performance," Imams said.

"Sincerity in work is very important in influencing a person's work culture. The sincere will always endeavour to maximise working hours productively and effectively and at the same time ensuring that the basics are not neglected, for example, attendance at work, commitment, dedication, discipline and integrity. Apart from performing the job in a clean, efficient and trustworthy manner, every worker is also expected to be loyal to the head or the employer, who represents the Ulil Amri (those in authority) to them."

Imams also called on the Ummah to supplicate together for the civil service servants to be sincere, creative and productive employees who are patient in performing their duties and responsibilities efficiently and with dedication.

May they be forbearing in facing challenges and successful in bringing the society towards a commendable and blessed lifestyle. May all the work done be rewarded and blessed by Allah the Almighty.
