PHILIPPINES

Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) has weakened slightly as it continues to move away from Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Sept. 26

Last spotted 230 kilometers (km) west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Karding was packing winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is moving west northwestward away from Luzon at 30 kph.

Despite its slight weakening, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) no. 1 remained hoisted in the central and western portions of Pangasinan, Zambales, the western portion of Tarlac, and the northwestern portion of Pampanga.

Residents of these areas were urged to be vigilant against strong winds within 36 hours. All other wind signals raised earlier have been lifted.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains will persist in Zambales, Bataan, Lubang Islands, and the western portion of Pangasinan until Monday afternoon, Sept. 26.

“On the forecast track, it will exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) [on Monday evening, Sept. 26]. This tropical cyclone is forecast to reintensify beginning Monday evening or [Tuesday morning, Sept. 27] as the typhoon moves over the West Philippine Sea,” said the state weather bureau in its latest bulletin.

Tropical storm Kulap

The state weather bureau is also monitoring a tropical cyclone outside PAR. At 10 a.m, tropical storm Kulap was spotted 2,100 km east northeast of extreme northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It will neither directly affect the country nor enter the Philippine boundary, said PAGASA.
