10th UTB Convocation Ceremony

381 graduates received their Doctor of Philosophy, Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in various fields at the 10th Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB, Convocation, 5th September morning. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Chancellor of UTB conferred the degrees to the graduates. The ceremony took place at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre in Berakas.

 

 The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education and Datin Paduka Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of UTB.

 

Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Pro-Chancellor of UTB.

 

The reading of Surah Al-Qashash was presented by Dayang Hajah Wafiqah binti Haji Daim, Bachelor of Science graduate with Honours in Food Science and Technology.

 

 In her welcoming address, the Vice Chancellor of UTB among other matters said that the close relations with industries and related agencies as well as recognition from accreditation bodies are points of attraction for students. The direct impact of the programs to employment can be measured from the marketability after the completion of studies. On average, 72 percent of UTB graduates from 2019 to 2021 have gained employment from industries and related agencies six months after graduation. While in 2022, 69 percent have gained employment from industries and related agencies three months after graduation.

 

 His Majesty then delivered the titah of consent to confer the degrees to the graduates.

 

 Out of 381 graduates, two received the Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Economy respectively, 66 graduates received Master's degrees in Engineering, Commerce, Computing and Informatics as well as Applied Science and Mathematics.  

 

274 graduates received Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering, Commerce, Computing and Informatics, Applied Science and Mathematics as well as Design.

 

 For the first time for a Higher Education Institution in the country, several UTB students have been awarded short-term scholarships by the Canadian Government. Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.

 

Four strategic areas namely Quality, Independent Students, Translational Research and 'Quadruple Helix' Engagement are the focus of U-T-B's Strategic Plan for 2019 to 2023.
