Bomb Threat Suspect Acquited for Being Intellectual Disable

The Gadong bomb threat suspect was discharged amounting to an acquittal by the Magistrate's Court yesterday after finding mental health reports from the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital doctors.
Awangku Ariffin bin Pengiran Mohammed is found to suffer from a mild intellectual disability which affects his ability to understand the proceedings against him and has limited capacity to accept responsibilities appropriate for his level.
DPP Aiman Zakaria's allegations had it that the defendant called the emergency hotline 993, transmitted a message which he knew to be falseor fabricated, alleging the presence of a bomb in the vicinity of Hua Ho Supermarket, Halimatul Saadiah Building, Gadong at 11am on July 11, 2016.
It was reported that police and emergency response teams moved into Gadong on that day, sealing the building and evacuating the public, as they tried to locate the bomb.
Hours later, the commercial area was reopened after the emergency response team found no real threat.
Investigations led to the defendant's arrest later that night.
Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli presided in the case yesterday.
