MYANMAR

Myanmar has seen an increasing number of civilian resistance attacks on junta forces in Sagaing, Magwe, Ayeyarwady, Mandalay and Yangon regions and Kayah and Shan states, killing more than 50 regime soldiers over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, a combined force of seven resistance forces raided Kyaukyit police station in Myaung Township, Sagaing Region, according to the Union Defense and Liberation Alliance.

During a two-hour shootout, at least five junta soldiers were killed and a resistance fighter was injured, the alliance said.

The group said all the attackers escaped after abandoning their damaged vehicle.

On Saturday afternoon, eight combined People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) ambushed a military convoy traveling to Myaung in Sagaing Region using landmines.

Two burning junta vehicles overturned and at least 15 junta soldiers were killed, according to the Civilian’s Defense and Security Organization of Myaung.

The organization said an army captain involved in recent firefights in Kyaukyit village lost his legs in the ambush.

On Sunday morning, the combined Moebye PDF and Karenni Nationalities Defense Force ambushed five military vehicles carrying around 50 junta soldiers at the entrance of Moebye in Pekon Township, Shan State.

The Moebye PDF said at least 10 junta soldiers were killed in the ambush and all the armed civilians managed to leave the town.

It said within minutes of the firefight, Battalion 422 based in Moebye fired more than 10 artillery shells at civilian areas of the town.

A 44-year-old woman was killed and five civilians, including a three-year-old girl and nine-year-old boy, were seriously injured by the junta artillery, said the Moebye PDF.

Several thousand Moebye residents fled the town after the bombardment.

On Sunday evening, the Pathein Special Task Force said it bombed a military vehicle on the Yangon-Pathein highway in Kangyidaunt Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

Three junta soldiers were reportedly killed and two others were injured while a wounded civilian fighter was beaten to death by troops.

Seven PDFs claimed to have attacked junta troops with four bombs while they were inspecting a fake PDF bomb in Pakokku Township, Magwe Region, on Sunday. The military casualties remain known.

On Saturday afternoon, at least five junta soldiers were injured when the Kale PDF bombed two military vehicles traveling from Gangaw in Magwe Region to Kale Township in Sagaing Region.

On Saturday evening, the Kale PDF attacked junta forces using a civilian vehicle which sped away from a PDF checkpoint on the Kale-Gangaw Highway. The military casualties are unknown but the vehicle was found overturned beside the road.

The PDF has recently warned civilians against using the highway because of potential firefights.

A series of PDF attacks were reported in Yangon and Mandalay on Saturday.

A video showed PDF volunteers firing from a moving vehicle onto junta sentries at the Barkayar junction in Sanchaung Township, Yangon, on Saturday afternoon.

In the attack, a junta soldier was reportedly killed and another injured in the arm.

Another video shows PDF members firing on a sandbag bunker in Botahtaung Township, Yangon, at close range on Saturday morning. The attackers told the media that four junta troops were killed in the attack.

On Saturday morning, a soldier was reportedly killed and another injured in a PDF ambush on a military vehicle near the Technological University in Thanlyin Township, Yangon.

Generation Z Power, a civilian resistance group, claimed to have bombed junta forces stationed at a football stadium in Mandalay on Saturday morning, injuring two soldiers.

A soldier was reportedly killed and two others were injured in twin blasts near the Mya Yi Nandar housing development in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay, on Saturday morning.

On Friday night, the Pekon PDF raided Battalion 336 in Pekon Township, Shan State, according to the group.

Five junta sentries were killed and their weapons seized by the PDF, the group said.

Except for Rakhine State, junta forces are facing increased attacks from civilian resistance forces and ethnic armed forces, including the Kachin Independence Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army and the armed wings of the Karen National Union and Karenni Nationalities Progressive Party.

The regime forces continue to commit atrocities, including burning down houses and arbitrary killings, especially in Magwe and Sagaing regions and Chin and Kayah states.
