Indonesian Nationals Charged for Overstaying

 September 2nd, 2016  |  09:24 AM  |   1103 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Two Indonesian citizens were caught overstaying during a recent operation conducted by the Law Enforcement Division of the Immigration and National Registration Department ( JIPK) called `Ops Kesan JIPK 64/2016' on Monday night from 10pm to 2.30am.

Asep Saepudin, 46, was sentenced to imprisonment for three months with three strokes of rattan for overstaying for 227 days, while Nani Mulyanti, 48, was sentenced to five months imprisonment after failing to pay a fine of $600 for overstaying for 434 days.

During the raid, four foreign nationals, including two women, were brought and detained at the Central Police Station. Two had overstayed in the country after their immigration passes expired and were arrested at two rented rooms in Mukim Kilanas and Sengkurong.

Foreign nationals who live or reside in Brunei, be it for work or visit, are advised to make sure that their passes are proper and in accordance with the Immigration Act and Regulations Chapter 17. It is the duty of employers and also the guarantor of the visiting passes to ensure that employees or visitors do not violate regulations such as working with other employers or working while holding a visiting pass, in addition to ensuring their passes are still valid.

Any dealings on passes like extension of visit or work should be made at the immigration counters and not through individuals who are not responsible. Any foreigners who are expelled and imprisoned will not be allowed to reenter Brunei Darussalam.

The department reminded employers not to employ foreign nationals who are not on their guarantees. The department welcomed cooperation from the public to provide information relating to immigration offenders.

Any information and the name of the informer will be kept strictly confidential. Information can be channelled by contacting the hotline of the JIPK at 8734888 or 8753888.
