Press Conference On Launch Of Brunei ICT Awards

In upholding the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, this year's theme for the Brunei ICT Awards, BICTA remains as “Smart Nation Through Digital Transformation” which depicts the move towards a Smart Nation through ICT innovation for society and economic transformation. With the objective to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT, BICTA 2020/2021 is open for participation by individuals, students, businesses, government agencies and organisations in three categories namely: School Category, open for individuals or groups of students in Year 7 until Year 11; Tertiary Category, open for individuals or groups of students in Year 12 up to Undergraduates; and Industry Category, open for individuals or groups, start-ups, companies and government agencies. According to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, 5 special awards will also be contested, namely Research and Development Project; Big Data Analytics Technology; Artificial Intelligence, AI Technology; Internet of Things, IoT; and Start-up. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof in his capacity as First Co-Chairman of the BICTA 2021 Steering Committee explained the matter in a press conference, this monring.
Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri also urged and encouraged individuals, students and ICT Industry representatives to participate in the 2020-2021 BICTA AWARDS. Through BICTA, innovative products and solutions can be produced, which not only fulfils local needs but is also responsive and in line with the current technology development and trend. He added, as part of efforts to disseminate BICTA 2020-2021, the BICTA Steering Committee with the cooperation of the BICTA Working Committee organised several roadshows last year and started the BICTA Plus Bootcamp in December 2020, for BICTA's participants to strengthen their business plan and market ready products and as preparation for the BICTA Competition.
BICTA is jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AITI and InfoCom Federation Brunei, IFB, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Darussalam Enterprise, DARe and Brunei Intellectual Property Office, Bru-IPO. Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards, APICTA since 2008 to-date has resulted in two winning awards and twenty-seven merit awards. Winners of BICTA will have the opportunity to represent Brunei Darussalam in APICTA.
