KUKKIWON, SOUTH KOREA

Local martial arts expert Awang Haji Ismadey bin Hussin proudly bagged a silver medal in the Knife Hand Breaking Category at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang Festival recently held in Kukkiwon, South Korea. The World Taekwondo Hanmadang, which shows the essentials of martial arts such as breaking, self-defence and poomsae, is a contest held every year at the world's famed Taekwondo headquarters.

In the first round, Haji Ismadey broke 15 tiles (the most tiles broken for that round), which placed him first among other contenders from Tonga, China, Hong Kong and Tunisia. However, Haji Ismadey had to settle in second place after his Malaysian contender, who also managed to break 15 tiles, was adjudged the winner based on standard rules.
