Anaconda Or ‘Loch Thames Monster’? Man Makes Bizarre Find In River Thames

What on earth is this thing lurking in the Thames? (Picture: Lewis Brennan)

A ‘mad thing’ has been spotted in the River Thames and it’s got everyone talking.

The passer-by posted a photo on Reddit of what appears to be a reptilian face with a red eye poking its head out of the water.

‘Saw a mad thing in the Thames just now,’ he appropriately captioned the bizarre photo.

Several commenters offered up theories on what the creature or object could be.

One person joked it was the ‘famous Thames Anaconda’ while another suggested it was the ‘Lock Thames Monster’.

A third remarked it was actually just a rock with a bottle top resting on the surface, while another was convinced it was a wooden post with something red inserted into it.

Some pointed out that a five-foot-long snake skin was found on the banks of the Thames last year, so there’s a chance it could be a snake.

The skin, thought to be from a boa constrictor, was discovered by London mudlark Jason Sandy.

A mudlark is someone who scavenges in river mud beds for items that could be worth something.

Jason posted his find on Instagram, saying it felt like he was mudlarking along the Amazon River, not the Thames.

In 2021, the first full ‘health check’ of the River Thames in 64 years found sharks, seahorses, oysters and seals are living in its waters.

It was the first time the river had undergone a proper review since being declared ‘biologically dead’ in 1957.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) said the water was teeming with life.

The Thames supports over 115 species of fish, 92 species of bird and has almost 600 hectares of saltmarsh – a crucial wildlife habitat.
