The Brunei Four-Wheel Drive Association (BFWDA) recently held a Doa Selamat ceremony at Rizqun International Hotel for its members who will be participating in the 26th Borneo Safari International Challenge (Borneo Safari) from October 30 to November 6, 2016 in Sabah, Malaysia.
The Borneo Safari is a hardcore 4x4 competitive event where participants travel through rugged terrain in one of the world's oldest rainforests, according to a statement issued by the BFWDA.
Teamwork among the participants is necessary to tackle and cross the mud holes, hills and river crossings encountered in the trails of the expedition.
Team BFWDA is expected to complete the eight-day safari, travelling from Kota Kinabalu to Ranau and Kota Marudu surrounding the majestic Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia where a lot of winching is expected to get out of the hardcore terrain through to the finish line.
Borneo Safari is organised by Sabah Four Wheel Drive Association with the support of Sabah Tourism Board and the Federal Government of Malaysia in showcasing extreme motorsports and promoting culture, adventure and nature in Sabah.
Haji Ibrahim bin Haji Awang Damit, the president of BFWDA, commented on Brunei's involvement in international events. "BFWDA's participation at Borneo Safari is hoped to widen our members' exposure to motorsports challenges at international level as well as to gain recognition whereby our locals are prepared to perform up to the international standards."
He added that the association plans to continuously support its members' participation in four-wheel driving as part of BFWDA's annual activities such as Trans Sumatra Expedition, Padawan International Challenge and Rainforest Challenge in the near future.
Team BFWDA to Borneo Safari led by Mazlani Haji Mahadi alongside other members Atiqah Norsauzelah Abdullah, Mohamad Noh Yusra, Masdi Wijaya, Saharuddin Pakri, Mohamad Haji Dollah, Sebastian Goh and Gerard Chen will be leaving the country today (October 27).
Team BFWDA won the Best Team Spirit award under Tag On Group D at last year's Borneo Safari and the only female participant from the association, Atiqah Abdullah won the inaugural Junglewoman award at Borneo Safari 2013. Hence it is hoped that the team will maintain the country's reputable performance at the upcoming Borneo Safari 2016.
