All Mosques, Suraus And Religious Halls In The Country Will Be Temporarily Close For A Week-Period

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister Of Religious Affairs also explained several issues related to the COVID-19 infection.
The Minister of Religious Affairs said the Islamic Religious Council held a meeting today to discuss the Fatwa or ruling of the State Mufti on the issue. The Ministry informs the public, especially Muslims that with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as part of measures to curb the spread of the global pandemic, the Brunei Islamic Religious Council on the advice of the Ministry of Health and the view of Syarak ruling based on the said Fatwa, the Council has decided to temporarily close All Mosques, Surau And Religious Halls In The Country for a period of one week starting from the Subuh or dawn prayer tomorrow, 17th March 2020 until the Isya' prayer on 23rd of March 2020.
Before the end of the period of closure, the Council would reassess the development of the pandemic. Secondly, the purpose of the closure is an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country. During the period, the cleaning of mosques, surau and religious halls will be carried out in stages according to fixed schedules. All activities involving mass obligatory prayers and other mosque takmir activities including the mass obligatory Friday prayer on 25th March 2020 will be not be held. However, although the mosques are closed, the Azan or prayer calls will continue to be performed and mosques officers are required to work as usual.
