SARATOK

Water woes in Saratok will soon be a thing of the past when a project costing around RM87 million to supply water to several villages is completed.

“An RM87 million allocation has been approved to resolve water woes in Saratok, Sessang and Kabong so that people will have uninterrupted supply of water,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when officiating at the BN government community outreach programme ‘Sejiwa Senada’ here yesterday.

Abang Johari also reminded the people of the announcement he made earlier regarding the installation of a water grid to distribute water to the whole of Sarawak as a long term measure.

The RM8 billion project will use Bakun, Batang Ai and Murum HEP dams as the water source.

The state could not be overly dependent on rivers as water source as they maybe polluted, with low water level or dry, he said.

He added that Sarawak should not be overly dependent on the federal government for fund and that is why he has set up the Development Bank of Sarawak.

“We must know how to get fund and use fund wisely,” he said. He said the state revenue will record a marked increase by October and then it would be the time to give back to the people.

He revealed that Jalan Kupang to Bajau in Saratok will also be upgraded.

The project is still at the contract tendering stage.

The tender for the RM90 million project will be opened by end of this year.

Abang Johari who is state BN chairman sought the support of the people during this forthcoming parliamentary election.

“With unity all around it would be easier to implement all projects and look after the wellbeing and future of the younger generation,” he concluded.
