The building of another Mosque in Brunei Darussalam has been completed, bringing the total number of mosques in the country to 118. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, yesterday joined the congregation at the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque, Kampung Kulapis in the Brunei Muara District, in performing the first Fardhu Friday Prayer at the new mosque.

On arrival at the mosque, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. Shortly after arrival, His Majesty proceeded to the mosque lobby where His Majesty consented to sign a plaque, accompanied with three calls of Allahu Akbar led by the Minister of Religious Affairs.

Also present were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel. The Azan or Call for the Fardhu Friday Prayer was performed by Awang Haji Zainal bin Haji Othman, the Mosque Affairs Officer of the new Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque, Kampung Kulapis.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti delivered the first sermon at the mosque. The sermon, among other things, touched on the religious reward for building a mosque. Therefore, Muslims are urged to save funds for construction of mosques, even in small amounts, because, according to the State Mufti, people who build mosques have their very own status and will be awarded with great rewards by Allah Subahanahu Wataala.

The Fardhu Friday Prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. The Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque, Kampung Kulapis, is an endowment from a family as a mark of remembrance for Kampung Kulapis and built on more than 2 hectares of State Land. Construction began on the 14th of September 2015 and was fully completed early this month.

The mosque can accommodate about 700 congregants. The building is equipped with the main prayer hall for male congregants, a prayer area for female congregants, imam's and muezzin's room, a store room, kitchen, a reading room, a meeting room, a multi-purpose room, separate wash rooms and ablution areas, a room for burial rites and a car park. Before leaving the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque, Kampung Kulapis, His Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses received junjung ziarah from the congregants.
