VIENTIANE

(KPL)Laos and Cambodia Vow to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation in all areas.

The commitment was made by leaders of the two countries during a state visit to Cambodia by President Bounnhang Vorachit on Feb 22-23 at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

At a meeting on Feb 22 with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Lao President said he wants Cambodia to increase cooperation with Laos in agriculture, tourism, services, trade and industry, said Eang Sophalleth, spokesperson and assistant to the Cambodian Prime Minister.

At the amiable talks, the Cambodian PM expressed his wish to boost cooperation with Lao in the fields of hydro-power, railways and economics and trade in the area between the southern region of Laos and northeast of Cambodia.

The two leaders lauded cooperation between the two countries over the years as well as within the Development Triangle Area, said Eang Sophalleth.

Last year, the two countries opened a Lao consulate in Sieng Treng Province, and a Cambodian consulate in Champassak Province.

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his Cambodia counterpart Hun Sen also opened a common international border checkpoint between Nong Nokkhiane of Champassak Province of Laos and Trapeang Kriel, Treng Province of Cambodia.

Earlier, President Bounnhang Vorachit met with King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Say Chhum, and National Assembly President Heng Samrin.

The visit to Cambodia by President Bounnhang Vorachit is the first of its kind since taking office in April 2016
