Leadership and Innovation in a Changing Global Environment' was the main theme for the Leadership Conference (LEADCON2016) held yesterday by the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), with the support of the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).

The event was intended as a platform for local and global leaders to offer their perspectives on leadership and innovation, while offering them opportunities to strengthen their respective business networks.

In a welcoming speech, Yusof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, the Managing Director of AMBD and the Chairman of CIBFM, said that the theme held great importance for current and future leaders.

"Leadership and innovation today have to co-exist, simply because leaders are facing challenges and changes that are rapidly transforming in the form of where, how and with whom they do business," he said.

"Globalisation is rapidly redefining today's business environment. This means we are constantly witnessing significant strategic shifts in terms transforming the playing field and creating vast opportunities for growth. It is therefore the aim of the conference to impart to the audience what matters most to leaders in this changing global environment."

Among the discussion on global leadership issues was a presentation by Dr Duvuri Subbarao, the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India on 'Leading in Times of Uncertainty - Experiences from the Reserve Bank of India'.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Dato' Dr R Palan, the Pro-Chancellor of Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences and the Chairman of SMART Holdings Berhad, gave a presentation on the topic of 'Values-Based Leadership'.

Chair Professor Datuk Dr Osman Bakar, the Director of the Sultan Omar `Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies (SOASCIS) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, also delivered a presentation on 'Leadership From Islamic Perspective'.

The conference was co-sponsored by Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), United Overseas Bank (UOB), The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Cityneon Displays & Construction, and the Asia Assets Management.
