Following a meeting with Golkar Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto on Wednesday, founder of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh expected that he could also sit down with Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) leader Megawati Soekarnoputri very soon.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Airlangga, Surya said that he was still waiting for a response from Megawati if she warmed to the proposal.

"Of course, there's that aspiration to meet. We need to just set it up. We will make the move, to see if Bu Mega can find the right time," Surya told reporters, referring to Megawati.

Surya also said that he would also hold meetings with leaders of political parties in the ruling coalition of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Earlier on Wednesday, Surya visited the headquarters of Golkar in West Jakarta to hold a meeting with Airlangga.

The meeting took place following Surya's sit-down with President Jokowi late last week, which analysts have credited for the President's decision not to have a Cabinet reshuffle this week.

Following Surya's NasDem Party's decision to nominate former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan as presidential candidate in the 2024 election, parties in the ruling coalition have called for the removal of ministers nominated by NasDem in the Cabinet.

On Wednesday, Surya declined to confirm if his overture to Golkar was based on an order from President Jokowi.

"There's no spoken order like that. I don't know his state of mind," Surya was quoted by Antara as saying.
