BERIBI, BRUNEI-MUARA
D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd yesterday inked an agreement with a local undergraduate to sponsor her tuition fees worth over B$19,000, giving her the opportunity to pursue her higher education in Brunei Darussalam.
The agreement was signed between Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit, Advisor of D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd, and Dayang Norasnina binti Haji Remli, the scholarship recipient, during a ceremony held at D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd's office in Kampung Beribi.
Raised by a single mother, Norasnina, currently a second year BA Business Management student at the Laksamana College of Business (LCB), is the third child among seven siblings. She was unable to complete her studies due to financial difficulties.
With the scholarship from D'Sunlit, Norasnina will be able to pursue the third year of her Bachelor's Degree and upon completion, will work at D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd during a bond period of three years, as part of the agreement.
Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman in his speech said, "D'Sunlit is proud to be able to help locals pursue their academic goals through its corporate and social responsibility initiative which is also in line with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's vision to enhance human capital development in the country.
While giving Nurasnina words of encouragement to achieve outstanding results with honours in her Bachelor's Degree, Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman also said he hopes to see more local companies to come forward and offer similar opportunities for locals to further their education.
"Providing education opportunities is not just limited to the government sector, the private sector must also come forward and support skill enrichment of our local talents, which will in turn benefit our nation's development," he added.
Nurasnina is the fourth scholarship recipient from D'Sunlit, and the company said the initiative is part of its long-term investment to develop human capital in the country and for the benefit of the country as a whole.
Present to witness the signing was Jackson Ting, Managing Director of D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd.
