Launching Of 'The Pedestrianisation Of Jalan Roberts And Adjacent Alleyways' Project

The atmosphere in Bandar Seri Begawan became more lively as several buildings along Jalan Roberts were painted in attractive colours and the floors were decorated with the Padian boat murals. The project dubbed 'The Pedestrianisation of Jalan Roberts and Adjacent Alleyways' is one of the initiatives under the Municipal Department, Ministry of Home Affairs with the cooperation of Ministry of Development to further beautify the capital. Yesterday morning, the project was launched at Jalan Roberts in the capital.
In attendance were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development; and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The first phase of the project involved the repainting of 5 shops in pastel colours. The project was then extended to the BIBD Ar-Rahnu building with the "Tujuh Padian" mural on the building's floor. The second phase of the project was the result of a cooperation between two ministries and the 'Guerilla Architects', and contributions from the private sector industry led by the Manpower Industry Steering Committee, MISC and Pertubuhan Ukur Jurutera & Arkitek Brunei, PUJA.
The project aimed to further raise awareness on the history of Brunei Darussalam and the old way of life through art. Also present were Dato Seri Paduka Architect Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development and Yang Berhormat Architect Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, Member of the Legislative Council.
