​A local man was brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court for an offence under the Excise Order 2006.

 

Ahmad bin Haji Othman, 63, was apprehended by the Law Enforcement Section, Royal Customs and Excise Department at RPN Kampung Rimba, Gadong. The defendant pleaded guilty to possessing 9 cartons and 71 packs of various brands of cigarettes. The court imposed a fine totalling $34,000 or 14 months imprisonment in default and all contraband were seized to be destroyed. While the proceeds from the sale of the contraband amounting to $224.95 as well as 1 Singapore Dollar and 20 cents were seized and handed over to the government.
