KUCHING

Brunei Darussalam's swimmer Ashley Chai Xin Rou reached the women's 200m backstroke final in the 18th Sukma after Chris Tan Li Ling of Sabah pulled out of the race at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya yesterday.

Chai originally did not qualify for the finals after finishing in 9th place with only the eight fastest qualifiers advancing but the Sabah swimmer was not listed in the results page of Sukma's official website.

The junior swimmer improved her preliminaries time of 2:41.94s with a time of 2:38.30s and finished eighth overall.

Selangor's Nadia Adrianna Redza won the event with a swim time of 2:26.55s with team member Rosalind Pang Shean Hong taking silver and Goh Chia Tong of Malacca claiming bronze.

Brunei Darussalam's wushu athlete Ang Guat Lian finished in 6th place after recording 9.02 points in the tauwan female event at the SJK Chung Hua No 3 in Padungan.

Sarawak's Audrey Chan Yee Jo won gold after recording 9.62 points with fellow team member Yong Arifah binti Khairul Kok claiming bronze after recording 9.50 points.

Lian's compatriot Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan finished in 9th place out of 19 entries after recording 9.12 points in the nangun male event.

Fu Fhang Zyun of Selangor won the event with 9.42 points while Lim Zhen Hoong of Wilayah Persekutuan claimed silver and Chiew Sow Hong settled for bronze.

Meanwhile, Nur Haziq Samil managed a lowly 13th place overall with a time of 58.08s in the men's 100m freestyle event in the preliminaries at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya.

Keith Lim Kit Sern of Wilayah Persekutuan won the event with a Games record after eclipsing Selangor's Foo Jian Peng's previous record of 50.94s in Terrenganu with a time of 50.77s.

Chan Jie of Selangor claimed silver with a time of 51.40s while Lim Ching Hwang of Wilayah Persekutuan grabbed bronze with a time of 51.76s.
